Let’s learn all about the color wheel with help from Pascale from Tangled. Artists will be introduced to primary, secondary, tertiary, complimentary, and analogous colors. They will mix each color to fill in their take-home color wheel. As we move through different sections of the color wheel, they will learn how different colors interact. At the end of the class, students will be able to change Pascale to different colors and explain how he goes from red to purple! This knowledge of the color wheel will be put into further action in next week’s color theory drawing.
Expanding on the color wheel, artists will learn how to create a beautiful picture of an object they choose, like a shoe, food item, musical instrument, or clothing. They will explore colored pencils and learn about monochromatic, complimentary, analogous, warm, and cool color schemes to bring their object to life. With this, they will understand how color schemes are an important part of any creative project. Picasso’s Prodigies will absorb how these color schemes help to communicate a message and create a desired mood or atmosphere. At the end of class, they will bring home a completed drawing that represents one color scheme they have learned.
Taking their developed knowledge of color theory, artists will be introduced to the elements of art and principles of design. To create a captivating crayon etching of an image of their choice, students will explore one of the main Elements of Art: Texture. They will combine this element with a vital Principle of Design: Pattern. They will start by filling in a paper with different colorful shapes and lines. After they will color over this with a black crayon which will be covered by Indian ink. Then they will trace an image of their choice and then use a tool to etch their design. In this class, artists will continue to expand upon their knowledge of color schemes to create stunning crayon etching.
In this hands-on art class, artists will learn how powerful blank areas or empty spaces can be in their design. Students will be introduced to a significant Principle of Design: Negative & Positive Space. Artists can choose an image to create their very own rubber block stamp. They will first draw out their design on their block and then be taught how to carve out their picture! At the end of class, they will use different colored ink to create a few different prints of their custom rubber block stamp.
In this hands-on art class, your little artists will learn all about the color wheel! They will be introduced to primary, secondary, tertiary, complimentary, and analogous colors. Starting with a primary color on each hand, they will mix their paint-covered hands to see how red and yellow make orange! As we move through the color wheel, they will learn how different colors interact. At the end of class, they take their handprint color wheel painting home to show you all that they have learned! This knowledge of the color wheel will be put into further action in next week’s oil pastel flower.

To create a captivating drawing of a sea turtle, Little Leonardos will explore one of the main Elements of Art: Texture. They will combine this element with a vital Principle of Design: Pattern. They will place a piece of paper over a texture rubbing and use a crayon to rub the paper and display the chosen texture. In this class, artists will continue to expand upon their knowledge of color schemes to create the sea turtle swimming in the ocean.
Using a picture of their side profile, your little artists will create a colorful silhouette self-portrait drawing. They will continue to practice their developed knowledge of color theory and the elements of art to create a lively drawing filled with colorful shapes and lines. Then they will be introduced to a significant principle of design: Negative & Positive Space. During this process, they will learn how powerful blank areas or empty spaces can be in their design. After they have completed their self-portrait, Little Leonardos will walk away with their drawing and important tools that will help them create future masterpieces!
